Riverside Theatre Offers Two-for-One Deal to Lure New Subscribers

In an effort to introduce more people to live productions, the Riverside Theatre in Vero Beach -- the area's only professional stage -- is offering an amazing two-for-the-price-of-one subscription deal for the 2008-2009 season.

The offer, only available to people who have never previously had a subscription package to Riverside, will enable two people who choose the least expensive subscription package to see five shows on Riverside's main stage for only $12 a ticket.

The buy-one-subscription-get-one-free initiative is an effort by long-time producing artistic director Allen D. Cornell, who recently also took on responsibility for business operations, to introduce Riverside Theatre to residents who have never visited the facility.

"The intent of the program is to entice people who have never been here to come and see live theatre," said marketing director Oscar Sales Jr. "Live performances are unparalleled. It is an enticement to get people to give live theatre a shot, and make it affordable."

The season is scheduled to open in October with the musical comedy Altar Boyz, a hilarious account of a struggling Christian boy-band (with one nice Jewish boy) looking for their big break in the Big Apple.

The off-Broadway version of Altar Boyz is now in its third year.

The second offering of the season in November will be Souvenir, a comedy based on the true story of Florence Foster Jenkins, a wealthy New York society eccentric who mistakenly believed she could sing and became a cult figure as she gave concerts for charity.

The season will continue in January with Breaking Legs, a comedy in which a playwright seeks funding for his new play from the "family" of a former student.

February will bring the best known of the season's productions, La Cage aux Folles, to the Riverside Theatre. The season will conclude in April with Rounding Third, an Odd Couple story of two totally incompatible men coaching a Little League Team.

For subscription information, call the Riverside box office at (772) 231-6990.
