About 60 friends and associates of Bobby McCarthy, proprietor of Bobby's beachside restaurant, were wined and dined at a preview party June 14th of his new across-the-bridge restaurant, Dockside Grille, on Royal Palm Point.
Bobby and his partners, Jerry Maher and Dan Simmons, have completely redone the building, which housed the seasonal Ellie’s Restaurant prior to the 2004 hurricanes.
In addition to installing a huge four-sided bar and four flat-screen televisions in the totally renovated restaurant, the new owners also have dockage on the canal that runs along the side of the building for up to 15 boats, enabling fans of Bobby's to sail to dinner.
Chef Patrick Hugh’s menu features the same signature burgers, steaks and seafood that for years have kept people coming back to the beachside Bobby’s, despite the no-reservation policy and evening waits for a table that frequently run to an hour or more.
But the Dockside Grille also offers an assortment of new dishes, including four varieties of delicious flatbreads, tuna burgers and a savory, herb-roasted Colorado rack of lamb.
While Bobby will continue to oversee both the old and new restaurants, he plans to be at the Dockside Grille evenings together with Maitre d' Endre Toth (shown above), formerly of Carmel's.
The Dockside Grille's official opening is June 16th at 4 p.m., when it will start serving dinner daily. It will not initially be open for lunch, but weekday lunch and a special Sunday lunch are said to be coming soon.
