Kenneth H. McKnight, 91, of Central Beach died at the Hospice House November 11th with his friends surrounding him. He was born in the Boston area of Massachusetts on June 15, 1917. His parents were William John and Eleanor Spence, and his siblings were William M., Martha Isabel, and Eleanor, all of whom are deceased. He was educated at Bentley College, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree. His entire business career was spent as a salesman for "The School and College Book Co.", where for many years he was the top salesman. He was a devoted member of Christ Church, Vero Beach and a member of the Constellation Masonic Lodge in Maine. He was a charter member of the "Beach Buddies", or as they named themselves "The Ocean Beach Medical Club". The membership requirements were simply that you had to have a medical problem and a constant joy and friendship. They demonstrate d that joy and warmth by their massive support during Ken's illness and passing. He was an avid reader and loved following the stock market. When he lived in the Boston area, he was very involved in helping firemen and would often ride the trucks with them. He and his sister settled in Vero Beach in 1993. He was a remarkable person in our lives, and was a man of constant gentility and kindness who will be missed by a great many people for a very long time. A memorial service will be held at Christ Church, 925 Fourteenth Lane, at 11AM on Monday, November 17. Interment will be in Boston at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to either Dollars for Scholars of Indian River County or VNA Hospice. |
