Doris J. Hardy, 79, of central beach died July 24th at the VNA Hospice House in Vero.

She had been a permanent Vero Beach resident since the early 1980s. Doris had vacationed and lived here part-time since her parent William and Cecilia Staples, relocated to Vero in the late 1950s.

On July 27th, family and friends gathered to celebrate her life. Born and raised in Detroit, where she earned business degrees from Wayne State University and the University of Detroit, Doris ventured west in the early 1950s, settling in the then small town of Las Vegas, Nevada.

She met her first husband there while both were employees of the Desert Inn casino. Doris' first child, son Deniz, was born there in 1954.

She later returned to Detroit, remarried, and had her daughter Jan (now a Vero Beach resident) in 1957. Settling in the Detroit suburb of West Bloomfield in the mid 1960s, Doris established her career as a commercial and residential real estate broker for the metro area throughout the 1970s and 1980s.

Doris made friends easily and enjoyed people from all walks of life. Until her very last, she stayed close with her earliest childhood friends and so many others she met along the way.

In addition to her son Deniz Hardy and his wife Joanne of Maryland, and daughter Jan Demko and her husband David of Vero Beach, Doris is survived by her brother Cary Staples and his wife Joy of Duck Lake, Michigan, niece Sharon Staples of Livonia, MI, and also by her last great joy, her grandchildren Jill and Grant Hardy.
